--------------------------------------------------------------------- NEWSLETTER OF THE OPENMP ARB Edition: June 2003 This is the monthly newsletter of the OpenMP Architecture Review Board. It is based on the discussions in the OpenMP ARB conference calls of the previous month, and on current activities in the world of OpenMP. The website of the OpenMP ARB is http://www.openmp.org. The web site of the OpenMP User's Group cOMPunity is http://www.compunity.org. You can find copies of previous newsletters at: http://www.openmp.org/newsletters --------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Discussions on the Performance OpenMP standard are on-going ** There was a succesful OpenMP session at ICCS ** The preliminary program of WOMPAT 2003 is available ** The submission deadline of EWOMP 2003 has been extended to June 29, 2003 ** EWOMP 2003 will have an hands-on lab session, where participants can try out new compilers and tools. Application developers and ISVs are invited to attend. * Discussions on Performance OpenMP standard on-going The discussions seem to be heading towards the following three components: (a) a set of pre-defined events, that might be supported by an implementation. The POMPv2 specification can be a starting point, but needs to be refined; (b) a query-based mechanism that allows implementers to limit what events they support, and (c) a well-defined set of information related to OpenMP constructs that will be loaded in a non-loadable portion of a binary and a mechanism to access this information. * Succesful OpenMP session at ICCS We had a successful OpenMP session at ICCS '03 in Melbourne, Australia on June 4. It was well attended, with several Australian contributions. * Forthcoming OpenMP workshops June 26-27, 2003. WOMPAT 2003 in Toronto, Canada See http://www.eecg.toronto.edu/wompat2003/. The preliminary program is available at the web site. Papers will be published by Springer Verlag in their LNCS series. September 22-26, 2003, EWOMP 2003 Aachen, Germany See http://www.rz.rwth-aachen.de/ewomp03/ This year's EWOMP is extended to a full week in order to try something new: After a two days "conventional" workshop part with invited and contributed talks (Part I: OMPtalks), we want to take the opportunity of having many OpenMP experts in the fields of compilers, tools and applications on board, to "get our hands dirty" and to do real work in a hands-on lab session (Part II: OMPlab). You are welcome to submit extended abstracts of your presentations up to 5 pages long by June 29th. September 2-5, 2003. ParCo 2003 in Dresden, Germany An OpenMP session is proposed for this year's Parallel Computing (ParCo). October, 20-22, 2003, WOMPEI 2003 in Tokyo, Japan See http://www.ac.upc.es/wompei2003/ (European site) http://www.hpcs.is.tsukuba.ac.jp/wompei2003/ (Japan site) Potential participants are encouraged to submit papers for presentation at the workshop and publication in the ISHPC proceedings. The proceedings of ISHPC-V will be published as a volume of Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) of Springer-Verlag. * SPEC OpenMP New SPEC OMP2001 and HPC2002 results are continually being published. Both benchmark suites contain OpenMP code, and test OpenMP compilers. You can view all SPEC OMP results at http://www.spec.org/omp/results.
