NEWSLETTER OF THE OPENMP ARB
Edition: January 2005/February 2005

This is the newsletter of the OpenMP Architecture Review
Board. It is based on the discussions in the OpenMP ARB conference
calls of the previous month, and on current activities in the
world of OpenMP. You can find general OpenMP-related links
at the tail of the newsletter.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

** The merge of OpenMP Fortran, C, and C++ specifications is nearing
finalization.

** IWOMP will take place on June 1-4, 2005 in Eugene, Oregon, USA

** WOMPEI took place on January 20-21, 2005 in Tsukuba, Japan

** Directors of the OpenMP ARB have been elected.

** NASA has joined the OpenMP ARB

---------------------------------------------------------------------

* The merge of OpenMP Fortran, C, and C++ specifications is nearing
finalization.

The draft specification of OpenMP 2.5 is available on the OpenMP web
site at http://www.openmp.org/drupal/mp-documents/draft_spec25.pdf.
The public comment period ended at the end of January 2005.

* IWOMP 2005 will take place on June 1-4, 2005 in Eugene, Oregon, USA

website: http://www.nic.uoregon.edu/iwomp2005/
submission deadline: 15 March 2005

IWOMP is the consolidation of three OpenMP workshops: the European
Workshop on OpenMP (EWOMP), the Workshop on OpenMP Applications and
Tools (WOMPAT), and the Workshop on OpenMP Experiences and
Implementation (WOMPEI). IWOMP 2005 is the first meeting of the
combined workshops and is being co-sponsored by cOMPunity and the
OpenMP Architecture Review Board (ARB). It will take place at the
University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon, USA. In keeping with the
objectives and format of the previous workshops, IWOMP 2005 will have
technical papers and panels, tutorials, and a hands-on laboratory
(OMPlab), where OpenMP users and developers can work together and
demonstrate the latest tools. Ideas for this laboratory are
welcome. Also, as the first IWOMP meeting, all participants will have
a chance to participate in a IWOMP logo contest.

* WOMPEI took place on January 20-21, 2005 in Tsukuba, Japan

website: http://www.hpcs.cs.tsukuba.ac.jp/wompei2005/

The workshop focused its attention on different aspects of OpenMP. On
the one side, there were talks on experiences from application
developers in the use of the language and performance of real
applications. On the other side, there were talks on experiences in
the implementation of compilers, runtime systems and tools supporting
the development and parallelization of applications with OpenMP. The
workshop also included presentations on moving ideas and concepts from
other programming models like HPF to OpenMP.

* New Directors of the OpenMP ARB have been elected.

We had three directors whose terms expired at SC 2004. At the annual
Board of Directors meeting in November, the Board has nominated the
following people, and these nominations were made official at an
OpenMP ARB Meeting.
- Koh Hotta (Fujitsu) replaces Ken Miura (formerly Fujitsu)
- Charles Grassl (IBM) replaces David Klepacki (IBM)
- Sanjiv Shah (Intel/KSL) replaces Sanjiv Shah (Intel/KSL)

* NASA has joined the OpenMP ARB

As of December 2004, NASA has joined the OpenMP ARB Corp.
